Court To Hear Appeal Of Decision To Try 12 Year-Old As Adult
07/28/2010
The Pennsylvania Superior Court has agreed to hear an appeal of a Lawrence County court's decision to try as an adult a 12 year-old boy who is accused of murder.
The case is that of Jordan Brown, a Wampum boy who is accused of the murder of his father's 8-and-a-half month pregnant fiancee.
Prosecutors say the boy killed 26 year-old Kenzie Houk as she slept on a couch in February, 2009. She was pregnant with the boy's father's child.
If the court rules the Brown case should be moved to juvenile court, the boy, upon conviction, could not be incarcerated past his 21st birthday. A conviction as an adult could mean life imprisonment without parole.
